ABOUT THE ARTIST

Giannis
Patsoulis

I paint the moment when the ordinary reveals its hidden energy.

Giannis Patsoulis is a self-taught painter with an instinctive fascination for realism, human expression, water, colour and light. Without following a conventional academic path, he developed his visual language through patient observation, experimentation and the need to translate striking moments into paint.

His subjects often begin with something familiar: a face, a reflection, a piece of fruit hitting water. Through scale, contrast and movement, those everyday images become intense and cinematic. The work invites the viewer to pause, look closer and rediscover what might otherwise pass unnoticed.

His practice remains independent, personal and always evolving—guided by curiosity rather than rules.

In conversation

In an interview with Antilalos Press, Giannis traces a creative life that began with childhood drawings and developed through independent experimentation, close observation and persistence.

He speaks about returning to exhibitions in 2025 after a twelve-year absence, using painting to carry emotion and social meaning, and understanding art not simply as an activity but as a way of living and connecting with others.

“Painting never left my life; it simply waited for the moment when I would return to it.”
